11-30-15 Love

Back of the Choir

love one another

These things I command you, that ye love one another.

John 15:17 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
LOVE
No simpler command there is than love,
Yet look at all the hate we’ve had since then,
As if we don’t know what He’s speaking of
Or it’s impossible, beyond our ken.
Just for today I beg you take this test
That all you meet is Jesus in disguise.
No matter what they do, how they’re expressed
They really are the Savior synthesized.
You must love everyone, not just pretend;
This is the reason why you still are here.
The Lord put you together for this end:
So you can share His love, each one endear.
It doesn’t matter if they love you back.
Your job is just to love without feedback.
11-28-15 Taste
Back of the Choir
Rotten-Inside 2
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Matthew 7:20 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

TASTE

It isn’t always easy judging fruit.

Sometimes you have to take a bite to see.

The tree it came from may have good repute,

But in the end it’s taste, don’t you agree?

A man who beats his wife may go to church

And act as pious as the Son of Man.

If you’re attune to Spirit in your search

You’ll see he’s filthy as a garbage can.

The Holy Ghost will lead you to the truth,

Will pull away the curtain of a lie.

Not everybody evil acts uncouth.

Some heavenly discretion trumps the sly.

Most times a rotten fruit’s as plain as day,

But some will fool; let Spirit lead the way.

11-27-15 Return Unto Your Rest

Back of the Choir

under the stars

Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.

Psalm 116:7 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
When all the work and play of day is done,
The dishes washed, the children laid in bed,
Reflect upon the struggles and the fun,
The things you didn’t do or done instead,
Return unto your rest, my weary soul:
The Lord has dealt so bountifully with you.
His grace has carried you from role to role,
His love a shining light the whole day through.
Despite your tribulation He’s been here
Within the very center of your heart.
You’ll never be alone, no need to fear;
Relax, my soul: the Savior won’t depart.
Tomorrow comes too soon; for now just rest.
The stars are bright tonight and you are blessed.
11-26-15 Give Thanks
Back of the Choir
children laughing
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

There’s always something to be grateful for

No matter what the circumstances are.

A hooligan may muscle through your door;

It’s better than the scourge next door by far.

Give thanks for every breath that’s given you;

God’s grace alone is reason to rejoice.

A heart of gratitude brings you into

A place where you can better hear God’s voice.

If you believe that things can’t get much worse,

You’re looking at the darkness, not the light.

Thank God that you have eyes to read this verse.

If blind thank God someone this poem recites.

In everything give thanks; this is God’s will.

It draws you closer to the Savior still.

11-25-15 Even So

Back of the Choir

hopeofglory-112

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace beunto you: as my Fatherhath sent me, even sosend I you.

John 20:21 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
EVEN SO
Our Father God sent Jesus to the earth
To save those who believe upon His name,
To bring about such miracles of worth,
There is no doubt at all upon His claim.
Our Father sent His Son to do His will,
To sacrifice His life to save His friends,
To take upon Him all our sins until
His blood could serve to cover and to cleanse.
And now the Savior sends disciples out
To save those who believe upon His name,
To show all that we meet there is no doubt
That Jesus died for them – that’s why He came.
If God sent down His Son to save mankind,
Are you not now His child and so inclined?
11-23-15 On Spiritual Maturity
Back of the Choir
baby eating meat
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
John 16:12 KJV
~~~~~~~~~~~

When you were born you could not handle meat:

You had no teeth to chew, your stomach frail.

You had to start with milk, so warm and sweet,

And then work up to solid food in scale.

Don’t take up calculus if you can’t count,

Don’t write a book if you can’t spot a noun.

The heavy doctrine truths aren’t tantamount

To learning how your sins can drag you down.

If Jesus told you things you could not bear

Your soul would be too feeble to digest.

The Holy Ghost guides teachers to prepare

The food of Spirit that you can ingest.

Don’t be afraid to ask, but don’t forget,

The Savior may tell you “Not now; not yet.”

11-23-15 The Mind of Christ

Back of the Choir

Washing-Feet.bmp-610x351

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus

Philippians 2:5 KJV

~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, may you always have the mind of Christ,
Who showed us how to live in love’s embrace;
That love be willing to be sacrificed,
And then no matter what be full of grace.
He was the perfect pattern, free from sin,
A humble servant with a heart to give,
Obedient to God through thick and thin,
And even unto death chose to forgive.
The mind of Christ is constantly in prayer,
Submitting to the will of Abba God,
Unbroken intercession to repair
The brokenness of man which sin has flawed.
Think only of those things that love sufficed;
Yes, may you always have the mind of Christ.
